Could a 940 speedometer head be used in 1991 740 instrument cluster ? 900

Has anyone tried to use a speedometer head from a 940 in a 1991 740 ?

The speedometer in my 1991 NA 740 wagon quit working. I took the speedometer out of the instrument cluster (Yazaki) and some parts on the speedometer circuit board are melted and burned. The fusible link on the cluster flex circuit opened but that can be fixed.

Would anyone know of a source for a used Yazaki speedometer or the entire Yazaki instrument cluster ? Some numbers on the cluster are 3515868 and 19901205.

I checked on ebay but only saw instrument clusters for pre-1991 740s or for the front wheel drive Volvos.

The car is non-turbo and has Regina ignition, AW70L transmission. The instrument cluster is very similar to the one on my 1993 and 1994 940s. I suspect that a speedometer from a 1991 or newer 740 or 940 might work.

I also wonder if a speedometer head from a turbo car (different rear axle ratio) would work in a non-turbo car.

Thanks,

Mike
