240 speedometer 200 1991

Got a 91 240 with a wacky speedometer; it works intermittently. I cleaned all the electrical connections except at the speedometer; no change. I then replaced the speedometer impulse sender in the differential with a brand new Bosch unit. Still no change. Any ideas on what the problem is?
