water pump problems on 86 740gle non turbo 700

my volvo water pump is on it's last leg, and now is needing replaced.wating to do the work myself and save a few dollars. what is needed to do the job? do i need to take timing belt housing cover and timing belt off to replace waterpump??anything special neded to know?? need to to this a.s.a.p.
