940 Distributor Problem? 900

345,000 kms/215,000 miles

I have a screeeching noise from the area of the distributor. It builds as I acelerate but calms down at higher speeds.Car runs well regardless. I thought it was a fan belt initially but I was told that it could be the bearing in the distributor. Sound familiar? Any idea what's involed ie. time and cost to replace the distributor. Is it a job for the pros?
