Mysterious black box on firewall 700 1992

I am doing an engine swap and I have removed an 8 valve engine from a 92 745.

There is a black box bolted to the firewall about 4 1/2" square which I have removed. A ground cable was attached.
It is very heavy and has no electrical or mechanical attachments.

Does anyone know what it is for? It carries the number Volvo 36 28 909.

I dont think I need it but I am intrigued.
