Shifter issues 200

Hello,

I have a 1993 240 and I am struggling with shifter issues. I have to press the shift lock override button to get it into and out of park. In my searches, it appears that this is a relatively common problem. My question at the moment is this: How do I remove the shifter cover without breaking it? It seems simple, but I'm stumped. It seems anchored towards the front, but I can't find any screws. I've pulled away the carpet to expose wires etc. but I don't see how it is attached. Does the shifter knob need to be removed first?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
