M46 O/D slips in and out 200

I am trying to sort out this problem. On a short highway trip recently the transmission started to jump in and out of overdrive. The green dash light stayed on even though the car was jumping in and out of O/D. I used the switch on the shifter to go back into 4th and a few miles tried the O/D again and it worked again for a few miles then jumped back in and out again. Could it be the relay?
