Curious about timing of breakdown 200

I had my timing belt done at a shop. I drive very lightly. About a month after this my master cylinder resovoir half way popped off, the rubber looked bad. I fixed this myself with a friend it was fairly easy. Then two weaks later the brake junction goes at the rubber piece that is somekind of idiot lite gizmo. Me and my friend mostly my friend after alot of work did the job ourselves, knock on wood three months and the brakes are still good. Do you think that the mechanic did something to the rubber bits on those two pieces? Next time I do the timing belt, I am hiring a mechanic to do it at my home. I mean it could look like the mechanic was just ensuring another $1,000 dollars of work. He didnt know that I do some of my repairs myself.
