Piston Quandary 444-544

Season's Greetings!

I have a set of B18 pistons out of a '65 Volvo 544 that are stamped:
Front
84.891B (#1 & #4) or 84.881 (#2 & #3)
SP 0.019
109 R09 030

I used a digital caliper (Cen-Tech) and measured the #1 piston. According to the caliper it measured 84.14 at the top and 84.79 at the bottom.

First question: I have checked out the caliper on other items and is seems to be pretty close, why the difference between what's stamped on the pisto and what the caliper says.

Second question: Is it unusual for the top and the botton of the pistons to have different diameters?

Any insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
