I just bought a 1990 245, replacing my 89 245. The new 1990 I think has an EGR valve since there is a tube coming off of the exhaust manifold and around into some sort of valve under the intake manifold. The tube is rusted through near the exhaust manifold. My 89 never had an EGR valve and I understand that these were only put on some vehicles like those from California? My question is can I remove the EGR system to avoid the maintenance and what does the EGR system include. Is the ECU etc. the same for a vehicle with and without a EGR valve?
Are there any other unique things different on a 1990 compared to the 89 year on the 245 model?
Also looking for opinions on another issue with the car. The car hit a curb and torn the passenger A-arm. The previous owner replaced the A-arm however the passenger side wheel is still very out. What do you think the next weak link in the front end could be? Curious if anyone else ever delt with a similar accident. Could the front hub spindle or rack also be damaged?
Thank you for any help.
