Sensor on passenger dash speaker ⏧ 940 SE] 900

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a '91 940 SE and am looking into upgrading the stereo system. Fortunately the front DASH and DOOR grilles were easy to remove but it looks like the door speakers are riveted in.

On the passenger dash speaker grille, there is some sort of sensor that fits into a hole on the speaker grille. In fact, I had some trouble getting the grille off due to the way the sensor is mounted.

Anyone know what this is and what it does? Don't want to break anything but can't figure out why there's one on the passenger side and not the driver's.

Thanks.
