1995 960 intermittent no start 900 1995

My daughters 960 typically will start no problem when cold. Recently, however, re-starting has been a problem. When turning the key to the start position, nothing happens. Battery's fine, all lights work etc, but turn to start, nothing happens. Today, after successfull starting (cold) she noticed the driver mode buttons were toggling back and forth between 'W' and 'E'. She put the car in park, shut off the car and now it won't start again. Other forums indicate ignition switch problems and/or the neutral safety switch?
Any ideas?
