burning plastic smell - uh oh.... 900 1993

I was driving the kids back from the local sledding hotspot, and horseing the wagon around corners for everyone's amusement, when there appeared a burning plastic smell. It isn't apparent inside until I turn on the fan, smells strongly from outside. I looked (albiet briefly) for trash caught on the exhaust, nothing apparent.
Any wild guesses?
