Merry New Year all, I've been in hibernation (for almost 20 months!)
Have a basic(?) mechanical question about the Zenith 36VN carb I'm attempting to refurbish. It's the standard single downdraft for the B-18A, and I want it on my B-18 1957 Duett, (in place of the perfectly good HS-6s now installed!)
Don't ask, it's a vaguely fuel price related decision, but as George Clooney says in "Brother, Where Art Thou,..?", "it's a fool who looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart,..!!!".
Anyway, I simply CANNOT manage to remove several screws and jets from the float assembly of the aforementioned carb!!!
Here's what I've already done;
1.) soaked the (already removed) float bowl assembly in (nasty smelling) carb cleaner for several weeks
2.) cleaned and dismantled down to the basic pieces
3.) bead blasted the parts w/ walnut shells, blew it all clean
4.) hot-tanked it for several days
5.) soaked (submerged) the offending fasteners (2x steel mounting screws+ 2x brass jets,+1x alu accelerator plunger assembly) in P-B Blaster for a week
6.) placed the float chamber assembly in my oven at around 300F for about 20 minutes, then more PB, tried to unscrew, but zip,...
7.) just started to seriously damage the various screw heads (brass and steel) but decided to quit and appeal for advice,...
Yes, I know I could "just" install a Weber and be on my way (I have a half dozen in my "treasure cave AKA Volholla). But, I'm stubborn and curious,..
Yes, I know that a set of well sorted HS-6s are a joy to drive, and they have been. (see above)
Yes. I know that I could probably make some other carb work, a Solex for example, but well, see above
So, does anyone have a derelict Zenith 36VN I could swap for parts, or a good suggestion? I have a friend with one of those ultra-sonic cleaners for his jewelery business, but he hasn't yet responded to my calls for help. Do you(all) think it might vibrate the parts loose? I'm reluctant to heat the parts up too much, in case they warp.
