Is it important that the fan on the blower motor shaft is like size to original? I would think so. Also, Why would the old fan not run until I take out of the ductwork? I put it back, and it seems OK at each speed setting. Hours before, installed, the fan didn't move.
It seems the fan motor shaft was no less free to spin than the new part--which I didn't install. I put a little lube on the bottom end of the original Delco motor--the only shaft end visible without risking pulling the fan off the shaft.
WHICH PART IS A GOOD REPLACEMENT? Would the approximately $76 version intended for the Volvo have a taller fan squirrel cage? It seems the GM (Delco) replacement units seem to have a shorter fan squirrel cage than the original. On recommendation notes from the FAQ, I bought a replacement part for the failing blower motor, but the FAQ notes let me down--or at least the part available at AutoZone was a disappointment. The FAQ suggests "Factory Air #35339 that lists for $49.88" is an option--which is the part that fits the Chevy Caprice Classic 1991-1996. AutoZone has a $41 part for the Caprice Classic, and different part for the Volvo 1993 940 at $76, but requires a special order (not in stock). I don't mind making my own connector, but I wonder if it matters if the squirrel cage is the right size.
Confused - and wondering which fan part I should go for if and when the fan truly does fail...
