I'm relatively new to B230 powered volvos I bought a poorly maintained but strong running 94 940 turbo wagon recently. (175k miles) It had a bad transmission and to get it going I swapped a good transmission from a wreck in it. (it had a hitch on it so that's likely what killed it) Anyway the car runs and drives well now, has good compression numbers but still has a number of issues that need resolved. The biggest issue is the oil leak/leaks.
I can drive the car and get it warmed up, park it on a clean garage floor and by morning there is a couple puddles of oil beneath it. The largest one comes off the back of the engine and drips from the rear edge of the oil pan. The other one drips out of the plastic gravel guard. I looked it over and it's tough to tell where the oil is coming from. The front of the engine is soaked and has a lot of crud accumulated on it from constantly being wet with oil. It appears to be coming from the cam pulley seal. The block is also wet toward the back and it is leaking from the distributor. It may be leaking from the turbo oil drain also, it's hard to tell as everything is wet with oil.
So I guess my question is, what are the usual suspects here? What should I check. It's a LOT of oil, not just a couple spots on the garage floor. We are talking a puddle the size of a small pie plate here. I know I should have done the rear main when the tranny was out, but none of the parts stores had one locally and I had to get the car out of my wife's garage by Monday. Do these cars all usually develop leaks in a predictable location? I just want to narrow down the list of potential culprits.
Thanks in advance
