Hi all, I am looking for advice and the best place to buy 240 parts online.
I removed the head (1989 240 wagon) and found out that I have a broken valve spring on the exhaust valve on the #2 cylinder. This is my second head removal
and it surprised me at how easy it was. The car is very rusty and I
am doing this mostly as an exercise so I am going to just replace the
broken spring and the valve seals at the top of the valves that are
very brittle. I borrowed a valve spring compressor from my local auto parts place and it did not come close to working on this head. Is there a common home grown way to compress these springs? I ended up pushing the spring down with pliers opened and it was not alot of fun. Has some one come up with a relatively simple jig to compress the springs? I have a feeling it is going to be alot harder getting the new springs on.
I keep reading about the original springs not being available and that
you need to use some special washers with the springs that are
available now? Can anyone tell me about that. I am hoping that it
is just a matter of adding washers to the valve assembly.
Any recommendations on where to buy the valve pieces. I see a few
places that carry them but I am looking for a vendor I can stick with
throughout my Volvo experiences
Thanks very much,
Jim Lee
