Advice on Valve Clearance 200

I have had a little valve clatter since I bought my 1992 244 a few years ago. With 199700 on the clock I decided to check the valve clearance.
4 intake .016
4 exhaust .015
3 intake .016
3 exhaust .016
2 intake .016
2 exhaust .017
1 intake .016
1 exhaust .017 with lots of drag. I’ll call it .0168.

I have the compression tool but failed to remove the one offensive shim with just a combination scratch awl. I suppose it’s time to make a trip to an auto parts store for a pick collection and a small magnetic wand.

I am not concerned with a little valve clicking once I correct at least 1E and 2E. I have replaced the valve hushers on at least 3 940s but these are nothing more than a temporary new car selling feature to quite the engine a little.

Here is where I need some help. In every valve reading .016, I was able to slip in a .016 feeler gage but not a .017 meaning the clearance is greater than .016 but less than .017. Can I assume that this is ok? Should I just replace 1 and 2E and check again in 50k miles?

Thanks, Tom
