Here it goes...BW55 to M46 swap 200

I have been spending bits of the last 3 months nursing an '80 244 diesel back to health. I have it running and looking great, but unfortunately the transmission is slipping and not shifting properly, among other shortcomings of the BW55. The good news is that I scored a good deal on an exact match complete parts car with a blown headgasket and a lot of new parts, including new clutch, so I don't have to go to the trouble of rounding up all the necessary things for this conversion. It had been a driver up until recently judging by it's condition and current reg. and insp., and the PO said that the M46 worked fine. I have decided to take his word for it.

I'm looking for some advice and pointers from those of you that have performed the same or comparable conversion. I have done a lot of work on 240s, have a lot of tools at my disposal, but never dropped a tranny.

If you don't think I should do it, or you're one of those D24 haters, save it and please don't litter this thread with your nay-saying. I AM doing this, so don't waste keystrokes trying to talk me out of it. I know it's going to be a challenge, but that's the fun.

Thanks for your help, brickboard.

Charlie
