Have a side benefit to fixing my no start issue it seems. Just replaced the large gray connector on my 86 to solve the intermittent no start issue. Turn the key and nothing, hook the car to another car and she would fire right up. Turned out to be a voltage drop across the crimps and corroded wires, hooking up to another car raise the voltage enough to start the car when you jumped it.
There is another change for the better and that is a steady voltage. My voltage used to start out at 13.8 volts but would steadily drop to about or just a touch below 13 volts on my 32 mile commute every day. Been that way since I installed my first volt meter a couple of years back.
Now Inga has a steady 13.8 volts all 72 miles of the commute. Does not seem to drop or vary much at all at idle or over 2800 rpm. She has a 100 Amp 740 Alt installed, and always thought the voltage was dropping because of the battery charging up. Checked the voltage with a VOM (DVM for you young guys) in the past and it read what the meter in the car read. Well checked it again today and 13.8 volts across the battery all the time.
I did increase the diameter of the Ground wire from the Block to the Alt housing in the same time frame. Had a 16 gauge on there and just raised it to 14 and new contacts.
Regards,
Paul
