Instrument Cluster Lighting Woes 200 1988

Hi All,

I have several Volvo 240's and one of them is experiencing the same problem that Xraybob had several years ago with his 1986 Volvo. I'm hoping that Xraybob or someone who has experienced the following described problem can help.

As posted on February 7, 2007 by Xraybob:

"I've had this problem for the past month and it's getting worse. When driving at night and the lights are on, the back lighting to the instrument cluster dims and brightens. Also, I can faintly see both green turn signal arrows. The turn signals work fine. I've tried adjusting the dimmer knob above the headlight on/off switch which doesn't make any difference. I've even smacked the top of the dash and that's made it brighter/dimmer for a brief moment. I recently installed a large tach/small clock set up about 3 months ago and that all works great.
Any suggestions where to start looking would be a great help.

Thanks all.
