Exhaust Pipe Rusting Out 900

A little less than 4 years ago I purchased a complete muffler kit from FCP Groton for $215 incl shipping, and had it installed for about $60 locally. I thought that all the parts, including connecting pipes and flanges, were stainless, and hence the exhaust system would last for many years. A few months ago, the pipe that goes over the axle developed a leak, and I had it patched ... now something else is noisey.

So what is the point of buying a stainless custom exhaust system, if they only last 3 to 4 years (just as any exhaust system lasts) ??

Any informed opinions and thoughts welcome ... thank you.
