I need some help here - Pretty decent Volvo Guy, but I'm stummped. Wife called yesterday said car sounded like a really bad belt squeel, looking under the hood, didn't seen anyting, but stopped driving to be sure. I thought smart broad, I've got na bad water pump, tensioner pulley, idler, whatever. Took the belt off today, still made the noise. Pulled off the timing cover, took of the belt expecting to find a bad water pump, found nothing.
As I turned the engine to line up the timming marks I heard a Clink Clinkc Clink fromt the rear of the engine, like by the tranny housing. Didn't think much of it. When I started it, no noise. Puzzled I stared and stared and stared. Then I shut it off and restarted and the nose was deafening from the rear area of the engine. A loud squeel increases with rev of engine, almost to a whine. SOunds just like a locked up belt pulley, but from the rear of the engine.
Any ideas?
I've thought
Starter draging
Bad Torque Converter
Rear main seal draging
Rock in torque converter area.
I'm open to suggestions, please give me your thoughts.
