elusive coolant leak=steam geyser 900 1994

My 1994 940T sprung a leak somewhere today and I can't pinpoint where. I recently bought it for $500 with a bad trans. The car was very poorly maintained and was leaking oil from nearly every seal. I installed a used trans, replaced the rear and front main and layshaft and camshaft oil seals. That was about 2 weeks ago and it was doing fine up until today. I just pulled into my parking spot at work and noticed steam billowing out from under the hood. I popped the hood and the entire driver's side of the engine is wet with one wet spot on the bottom of the hood about where the thermostat housing sits. Everything under the intake manifold is soaked so it is impossible for me to tell where it's coming from. Do you folks have any ideas? If it was the water pump it would be leaking around both sides of the engine wouldn't it? Could it be the *gulp* head gasket leaking under the intake manifold?

Thanks in advance for any help.
