Not Charging 200

So I have a 1990 240 that has charging issues.

Voltage gauge flips between charging at full and not charging at all (running on batt). Yesterday it was fine all day (100 miles of driving) and then, after a hard acceleration with high RPMs, it stopped charging altogether. I have: Replaced the Alternator, no real change; grounded exciter wire (ALT and other warning lights came on in key position II and then the ALT light stayed on when the car was started); The battery terminals have been cleaned and wires have been wiggled.

So other than bringing my battery charger to work so I can get home, any ideas? Thanks!
