fuel pressure regulator question 200 1991

My son and I have been changing out vacuum line in his brick. When we changed out the vacuum line for the fpr there was a faint smell of gas but no dripping of gas from the line. The car runs fine. Just passed emmissions inspection. Is the fpr on its way out? Thanks, George
