"New' '87 Wagon: interior trim removal 200 1987

I would like to remove (pull up) the carpet from the rear seat section driver's side; I need to get all of the water out that leaked in. But it's held in place with a plastic trim piece that runs along the bottom of the door jamb. How does one remove this? There are no screw holes so it must be clip features on the inside of it but I'm afraid to yank on it and break it.

The Story: I found a nice '87 240 Wagon for cheap and am really chuffed! (wife's British word meaning "stoked!" I already have an '89 240 Wagon with 200k miles on it.) I picked it up the '87 in a downpour yesterday and the driver's side rear was/is full of water: bad leak. Using the Brickboard I'm pretty certain that I solved the leak problem: rats or mice or squirrels had built a fine little home in the engine compartment open well where the hood cable passes through the firewall. This caused blockage of the well drain-hole with dirt and other nest debris, and a build-up of water to the cable pass-through hole level, and resultant leak into the driver's side. I noticed wet along the rim of the fuse panel which led me on this hunt. We'll see during the next downpour.
