poor idle/ sluggish acceleration 900 1991

My 1991 940 se turbo wagon has very rough idle and slow acceleration. The problem ocurrs when the engine is cold or hot. It has always had a slight oil leak, but now its worse. The problem seemed to begin when cold weather teems at night, 20s in the day) hit for a few days. The weather isn't so cold any more, but the problem is still there. what are the obvious things to check out?
