M41 Tranny gummed up 140-160

Thought I might start a new thread on this project. The M41 I bought will work in my '73 142, even though it came from a '75 240. I've put 12 volts to the solenoid and do hear a somewhat quiet clunk which I hope indicates that the solenoid works. However, the tranny had almost no fluid in it. and so is somewhat stiff to operate. I've put a couple of quarts of gear oil in it, and am turning the gears manually in the various positions. Question is, is there something I can put in the transmission that will loosen up the old grease gunk? Wouldn't want to damage the seals and gaskets.
