OD test inconclusive (bypassed) - IPD plate 7071K experiences? 200

Hello all,

Trying to finish a couple nagging issues, the first being the infamous flame trap and perhaps related rear main Exxon Valdez-like oil leakage. I totally cleaned, swapped in a plastic arrestor (removed the brass unit) new vacuum hose to the intake, drilled out the brass fitting for idle vacuum supply.....we shall see if she is still gushing after driving tomorrow.

Regarding the non-functional OD on my automatic. I attempted to straight wire the OD solenoid today to see if I could tell a difference at highway speed, but since the car has no tach I really can't tell much difference. Disconnected the solenoid connector directing above the output trans. shaft, and straight wired it to the battery to see if the OD would function....inconclusive. I've researched a bit and found the IPD blockoff plate, which effectively keeps the car in OD all the time. My concern is, investing another $50 if the OD is really dead.

I'm wondering if anyone has attempted the recovery of their OD only to find that the automatic 3 speed was fine but the OD would not function in either mode....straight wired (BTW my solenoid is new approx. 3 years ago but never really functioned for long) which is what I tested today, and perhaps finally the IPD blockoff (bypass) plate, and in both cases to find the OD was shot internally.

At some time in the past years, I did replace the tranny oil and installed a new filter.....but the OD never worked for long after that work. The first 3 gears seem to function fine, just no OD.

Thanks in advance, all.
