Steering noise 700

My '90 740 GLE 16 valve is developing this "tap" noise when I turn the steering wheel in a tight space,at low speed,like when I'm parking. And if I turn the steering wheel all the way to the end, on either direction, the noise is much louder,difficult to describe noise,but not as the "tap" I mentioned. I get the impression the steering shakes when this noise (steering all the way to one side)starts. Any ideas of what kind of problem I'm facing? Costly repair? The car is 200K miles.
