main rear seal question 700

changing the main rear crankshaft seal.
I looked into the FAQ and I might not have understood properly what it said but I used a 1/4 socket extension to drive the seal in the housing. I know the FAQ says a 3/8 or 1/2 inch socket extension. Well, I damaged it. The metal ring around it bent in every place I hit it.
So that was the orange seal. Now I ordered the thinner one which is more expensive. I'd like to not repeat that error again so my first question is how do you drive it in? I have a groove in the crankshaft and would like to drive it in more. What do you use to drive it in without damaging it? There was a brown seal in there so that's why I'd like to drive the new one in more deep even though it's thinner

And what digs the groove in the crank? Is it the front of the seal or the rear where you have the round spring?

Please confirm that I got the steps in order to install the thinner seal.

1) Install the aluminium housing with the gasket.
2) Install the seal on the crankshat.
3) This is the step I am not sure. Do you use the carrier to drive the seal in or just to make sure the seal lips are seated properly
4) Drive the seal in with what??

Thank you
