winter/wet weather transmission fault S90-V90 1998

The yellow arrow is flashing on the dash indicating a winter/wet weather transmission fault. The manual says to contact the dealer and present a blank check. Any alternatives?

FTR, the transmission got clunky a few months ago and once even refused to shift into gear. I've subsquently replaced the transmission fluid, which was quite muddy looking. I've had no other problems for several thousand miles.

The wagon has about 140,000 miles, and a new timing belt, on it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
