my alternator and voltage regulator avec pics. 200

this is my alternator. It is pretty dirty and looks old. Any ideas how I can clean off the grime - any good solvents that are good for engine parts?

This is my voltage regulator

- the brushes measure out to 4/16 but I plan on changing them now. is it just me or did it take you guys a couple of hours to get the alternator out. On a side note - I have still to figure out how I am going to get it back in - it seems like this will be an even lengthier process. If you guys have any shortcuts or tricks, just toss them my way.

Lastly Art mentioned that one way of telling that the V belts are due for replacement is too look at the pulleys. These pulleys look pretty shiny - would you say the belts need replacement. Now that I think of it, I am unsure why I didn't just take a picture of the belts.

Thanks,

Jimmy
