Hello all you brick owners !
Hey, I have a great running 740. About a year and a half ago the intermediate bearing (located on the drive shaft)disintegrated, so I performed a replacement with parts I picked up at P&P. All has been working well until recently. There is a noticeable metal to metal noise in the differential lately. I.E., when shifting from reverse to drive (automatic trans.) or from neutral to drive there is a definite clunk in the rear end! In fact if the car is rocked while parked, one can hear the clink in the rear axle. I removed the wheel one day to check if it were the bearing- but the noise is definitely from the differential. Has anyone any stories about changing the pinion gear- or the bearing from the shaft to the entry of the differential - shaft end? Is it a relativiely staright forward job,or what? I can get the parts from P&P but do they need to be new or will good used parts suffice?
Thanks for the input!
