Odometer, speedometer 3 pin connetor 200 1989

Does teh white Three pin connector that plugs into teh back of teh Speedometer power up the Odometer motor only? I mean if that disconnects will the Odometers poop out but teh Speedo still work?

On the way to work yesterday my trip and regular Odometer stopped working, I assumed my second, 'Used' Gear died . I finally boned up the bucks for a New gear but then it startred me thinking that maybe just the connector fell off.
I broke the separate locking device that holds that connector in. I have never had it fall off before but.. maybe.
So will the Speedo work if that connector was off?
