Yes, I know they're not related but two symptoms; wondering whether I should worry...
I have a 1996 960. In Park is seems to have more slop than I would consider normal. Rolls back and forth a couple of inches. On a hill, once I take my foot off the brake it rolls a bit before stopping. This, coupled with a perpetually troublesome emergency brake makes me somewhat uneasy. Is this likely inside the transmission or a universal joint or something else? The car is quiet at speed.
Second thing is a distinct fuel smell, usually once I come to a stop after I've driven a bit. My gas mileage is at best 20 MPG with primarily cruise control highway driving at ~71 MPH. I haven't seen any obvious leaks in the driveway, etc.
I'm planning on a ~500 mile round trip and wonder whether I should take our newer car.
Thanks much.
