Odd Noise/ stuttering on acceleration 200 1980

My 1980 244 Auto has recently developed a bizarre noise coming from the dash area, the noise sounds like growling dogs in a way it's sort of a rubbing noise a bit like "RuuuRRRRruuuuRRRrururruuR" if that helps at all. Anyway, when the car makes this noise the engine stutters when it is moving even in reverse, particularly while accelerating, but never cuts out. If the car is in park the engine revs fine, but the noise continues. I should also point out that it only does this when it is warmed up.
