Cleaning up an old fuel sender 120-130

After a couple of unpleasant running out of gas experiences, I bought a new fuel sender and installed it with new stainless steel screws. The old fuel sender was corroded. But it did still work to a point. I figure if I can clean it up, I'll keep it as a spare.

What is the best way to clean an old fuel sender?
