1993 240 wiper cable 200 1993

The driver side wiper cable came off the wipershaft pulley. I have pulled the instrument panel from the dash and have been attempting to re-wrap the cable onto the pulley,without success. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to accomplish this? The closet Volvo dealer is 160 miles away and I don't know of any mechanics here with this type of Volvo experience.
