fuel lines on transfer pump - '83 240 200 1983

My green beauty has died a couple times, then it runs for awhile, and now will start sometimes and run reeeeally rough. Seems like it might be the fuel transfer pump. I was going to investigate, but the fuel lines on the top of the pump just will not come off. I push it back hard and it bounces right back up to where it was. Am I missing something here?
