I do not have the $pecial volvo tools to take loose the top strut nut, and can't afford them. My brother has a shop and air tools, but I can't do the entire job there.
If I air hammer the top strut nut loose two turns or so at his shop, and drive it home and remove the top nut the rest of the way once it is where I am going to finish the job, will I be able to get the nuts loose then? Can I hold the old strut shaft with a vice grip through the spring?
I realize it will be banging and clanging, but it is only two miles from his shop to home. Is there a special socket for the top strut nut that is cheaper than the Volvo $pecial tools. Any other suggestions on getting the top strut nut loose without special tools?
