I've got a 1992 240 wagon non-turbo, 225k miles. Bought it at 165k miles a few years back; sweet, great car, etc. etc.
Backing up with the wheels turned hard to the right, e.g. out of a parking space, or going forward around a slow turn under load, e.g. up a spiral parking garage ramp, I get an awful metallic clunking out of the rear end. No problem or noise driving normally otherwise.
I't's got a 1030 axle and the ABS system so I assume it has a TrueTrac LSD with the speedo tone ring. Haven't checked the final drive ratio yet.
I've seen descriptions of spider gear shafts breaking but no indication of what the symptoms of that are. Being a LSD maybe it's just getting grabby and needs a lube oil change...?
I'm trying to figure out how seriously to take this. I don't typically drive the car more than 100 miles occasionally, more typically 30 miles/day around town short trips.
