Setting B230 Valves - Hot or Cold? 200

All the motors I have ever fooled with required valve adjustments to be made with the engines stone cold. I know there are some engines which require valve adjustment to be done hot, but I never had one. Since Volvo gives specs for both cold and hot tappet clearances, I always use the cold setting.

I just saw in the 700/900 FAQ's that a hot valve adjustment is recommended. Is there a valid reason to set the valves with the engine at operating temperature or is that procedure used just for the convenience of a repair shop?

Thanks,
Rich
