Replaced Regina on Saturday. Thought some notes might help others. Some of this won't make sense unless you have studied Art Benstein's photos.
3 hours, but I work slow. Fumes were not as bad as expected, and were not an issue.
I opted to get all clamps off before pulling off any hoses.
Hose clamps were shot(rusted), and the 2 on the filler hose were a problem. I used a chisel on the filler tube end and broke the clamp. On the tank end, I could not get to the hose clamp screw(rusted), and left the filler tube on, and it was not a problem getting the pump out.
On the bench, it was easy to deal with the problem clamps.
Removal was as Art shows, as was replacing and resoldering.
At first I tried reinsertion of the assembly into the tank without tieing up the spring-loaded assembly. That didn't work, so I used fishing line up through the vent hole, and tied it off onto one of the metal tubes. Easy to cut off later and pull back out.
Also, I found that, as someone suggested, putting the sealing ring onto the tank, and then inserting the assembly into the ring was the only way to put it back. The rubber sealing ring was very "sticky" after getting gas on it, so lubricating the assmbly(where it contacts the ring) with petroleum jelly was a great help.
Tank being more than half-full was not an issue, since I was on a slight hill.
Amazing improvement! I did not realize how much the engine was starved for fuel.
I hope this helps others. I appreciate answers to my questions about this, as I was more nervous about this job than necessary.
