I need to replace the front drivers seat in the 780 as it's basically trashed. The recline no longer works, the seat bottom is held in place with gravity only and years of change (over $3.00 worth) have trashed the seat tracks.
For now I have a Recaro from a Porsche in there & it's a really nice seat, but because of the rather lumpular floor of the 780 I needed to raise the Recaro about 3cm up off the floor so it can slide. But now it's too high.
Getting in & out is a challenge, & once in, my head is touching the roof panel.
I have a budget of about $300.00 for a replacement seat. I don't need to replace the passenger as it's in okay condition, but the drivers side needs to go.
I contemplated getting a seat from another Volvo, but this is a coupe & I still need access to the rear seat.
I've looked at this one from Corbeau: http://www.corbeau.com/products/reclining_seats/sportseat/
and this one: http://www.corbeau.com/products/reclining_seats/baja_rs/
I'm sure there are others.
My main issue is I'm 6'2" but I have a long torso. Even with the factory seats I'm almost hitting the ceiling, so what ever seat I get needs to be no higher (seat cushion) than the stock 780 seats. Are there seats from other cars I should look at?
As of now the Recaros I have are really nice, & even the factory seatbelt anchor point works (direct swap) but it's just too tall, more specifically I can't mount it any lower. Once in, it is comfortable, but I can't see the tops of the gauges & well, I think I need to slide the sunroof panel back.
I don't need bells & whistles. To be honest, since no one will ever get into the back seat from that side, I don't think it needs to flip forward. It does (obviously) need a way off mounting the seat belt anchor on the side & be comfortable for the occasional long distance trip.
If anyone has ANY suggestions, please let me know, this includes having the original seat repaired. Thanks!
