sqeaking bushes 120-130 1967

My 122 sedan has squeaking lower a-arm bushes. I had them replaced 4 years ago at a import shop (disaster - but another long story for my laziness) - first time in 14 years. Now I'm attempting it myself, but the manual says both bush flanges should face the rear of the car. The ones on my 122 do not. One faces front and one rear. Which is correct?
