I was working on the 1800 today. Had a new windshield put in and gave her a bath. Went to back her into the garage and found that the key would not turn in the ignition. It will slide into and out of the keyhole with the same amount of force it always has, just won't rotate clockwise like it should. Sadly, the steering lock was also engaged. I was able to push her into the garage, albeit a bit sideways. Guess the S60 will be camping out until I fix this or get some dollies.
So, from what I have read, it sounds like the lock mechanisms on these cars tend to split. What am I looking for to determine if that is the issue? It was dark, so I wasn't able to look under the dash real well and see what was up. Honestly, I don't mind removing the steering lock functionality...just need to know how. Is it easier to use an aftermarket ignition replacement, than to repair the old ones? Thanks!
