760GLE Ignition Barrel 700 1988

Well, I've narrowed down some of the electrical problems I've been having lately as a dying ignition switch. I started reading the FAQ and noticed that when the locking cylinder itself fails, you can no longer turn the key. I just wanted to get the fellow brickboarders' opinion on whether or not I should go down and get a new barrel (Dealer quoted me about 200$, coded to my VIN, which is kind of steep for me right now) But I figured while I was doing the ignition switch, why not? (other than the price) I've never had any trouble turning the key with this barrel, but I'm able to pull the key out probably a couple of millimeters while the key is in position 1 or 2, is this indicative of a failing unit? I've been able to do this for as long as I've had the car (about 1.5 years)

Thanks!
