Back in February, my 1987 760 Turbo took a dump on me.
Not knowing what was wrong and having just come across a great deal on a 1988 BMW 325iX (please don't throw anything at me, it's in pristine condition and only has 113,000 miles on it) I parked my trusty Volvo and snapped up the BMW.
I recently diagnosed my Volvo problem as a blown head gasket and am now stuck with the decision on what to do with my Brick.
Before I give you the options, a little background. I bought it with salvage title ten years ago. It has 127,000 miles on it. Ive replaced the water pump & timing belt, temp sensor, had the tranny rebuilt a few thousand miles ago, and replaced the rear shocks & springs.
Other than the head gasket, it needs a little tlc; it needs a driver side tail light, new antenna, tires (soon), drivers seat repaired or replaced (it's stuck in an awkward position,) brake switch adjusted or replaced, the driver side carpet has started getting wet (sunroof drain?) and a blower motor issue (which is, itself another long post,)and a cracked windshield.
According to my wife, the BMW is staying in the family, So what do I do with the Brick?
Option 1: Scrap it. (I really don't think I can do this.)
Option 2: Sell it as-is (What do you think would be a fair price?)
Option 3: Replace the head gasket myself, then sell it (Fair price? And would the price be worth the effort an money of replacing it?)
Option 4: Replace the head gasket and keep it as a daily driver. (I like this idea, but then I have two 20+ year old cars to spend money on.)
Help.
PS: I suppose I could part it out if there was any interest here.
